A Timber Creek Signature Couples Intensive

Transform Your Relationship with Our Intensive Program

At The Relationship Institute by Timber Creek, we offer immersive, personalized couples intensives designed to help you and your partner address deep-rooted relational issues, rebuild trust, and strengthen your bond. These intensives are perfect for couples who want to make significant progress in a short period of time, providing the equivalent of three months of therapy packed into just two or three days.

What is an intensive?

Learn more about what to expect during an intensive.

01

What therapy methods are used?

At The Relationship Institute, we utilize an integrated approach based on the most effective research-proven methods, including the Gottman Method, Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Couples, and Behavioral Couples Therapy. Our therapists are specially trained in these methods, ensuring that each intensive is tailored to the unique needs of your relationship.

03

What topics are typically addressed?

We cover a wide range of topics, including communication issues, infidelity, intimacy and sexual concerns, financial strains, blended family challenges, and career conflicts. Our holistic approach creates a safe environment for addressing the root causes of these issues, leading to meaningful and lasting change.

02

What makes these intensives unique?

Our approach is grounded in Dr. Cuthbert’s integration of couples research, focusing on six spheres of relational needs: empathy, accountability, reconnecting after tension, healing and trust-building, negotiating with flexibility and assertiveness, and developing a strengths-focused mindset. We emphasize helping your relationship grow strong while nurturing your individual selves.

04

Is the intensive appropriate if we are seperated?

Yes, as long as both partners are willing to commit to the process and give it their best effort. Doubts and lack of motivation are normal, but these intensives are not suitable if one partner has no intention of staying in the relationship.

What results can we expect?

Couples typically leave with a stronger sense of unity and a better understanding of their relational problems, along with new skills for relating to one another. Most couples also experience significant healing, better communication, and a clear plan for maintaining progress after the intensive.

What is the intensive schedule?

Two/Three Day Relationship Intensive Structure

Pre-Work
Completed 2-3 days before the intensive, this includes an intake questionnaire, a brief, research-proven personality assessment, and a relationship assessment (often using the Gottman Relationship Check-Up and Dr. Cuthbert’s 6 Core Relationship Skills Assessment).

Day 1: Morning Session

  • Hour 1: Initial meeting to learn your story as a couple and start defining your goals.

  • Hour 2: Individual session with one partner to understand their background, relational history, and goals.

  • Hour 3: Swap above, with the therapist meeting the other partner.

  • Break: Typically involves a meal or walk. We encourage refreshing rather than continuing relationship discussions during this time.

  • Hours 4-6: Clarifying goals, understanding assessment results, and beginning to address root causes of relational issues.

Day 2: Morning Session

  • Hours 7-9: Deep dive into core issues and agreed-upon goals, focusing on secure attachment and skill development.

  • Hours 10-12: Wrap up with a focus on remaining questions, concerns, and planning for life post-intensive.

Post-Retreat Follow-Up
Your follow-up needs will be addressed before you leave. Some couples benefit from additional sessions, while others may not require any further check-ins.

Note on 3-Day Intensives: The structure is similar but includes an additional 6 hours, allowing for deeper exploration, healing, and practice of new skills.
